Mirror, Mirror

Dr. Dog

Shame, Shame

Jon Gamero here bringing you the mad notes in the form of Mirror, Mirror from Dr. Dog’s latest album.

The album is full of tracks showing that the band hasn’t lost steam since their start in Pennsylvania. Tracks combining the lo-fi sound that was classically synonymous with the 90’s along with the attention to harmonies and catchy but profound lyrics of the 60’s. How does their sound stay so faithful? Apparently, some of the tracks off of Shame, Shame have been in the works for years, and some have been finished for a while and just haven’t had their album to shine on yet. True story.

Like many of those I’ve showcased on Earworm, they got a big kick from their appearances on the late-night circuit. Ditto for the festival stints they did. I was lucky enough to catch them at Primavera Sound 2010 and it was worth getting there hours early to crowd the front row.

One of life’s greatest mysteries to me will always be how this band hasn’t yet blown up in a big way. Hopefully the tide will turn in their favor with their release of new album Be The Void, which comes out just around Valentine’s Day next year.
