Admiral Fallow : Beetle in the Box : Beetle in the Box

Fun (and free!) new song from some of our favorite Scotsmen, Admiral Fallow.

The Moth and The Mirror- Fire

You can’t call yourself a fan of the Scottish scene if you aren’t listening to this 6-piece band, made up of some of the more “minor” members from Admiral Fallow, Frightened Rabbit, Arab Strap, and the Reindeer Section. If that doesn’t sell you, just listen to Louis Abbot’s pleading cries layered over Stacey Sievewright’s airy vocals. Their album Honestly, This World is out now.

We Were Promised Jetpacks- Medicine

In honor of the release today of the boys’ second LP, Boy in the Backseat (GO BUY IT!), we’re bringing you the video for their second single, Medicine. The video was released a couple weeks ago; here’s hoping it catches some steam and these boys get the recognition they so fully deserve.

Camera Obscura- Let’s Get Out of This Country

An old favorite from the ever-charming Glasgow indie pop group Camera Obscura. Is it just me or did She and Him totally rip off their sound from these guys? Let’s Get Out of This Country is perfect for: driving around dilapidated Jersey Shore towns, planning trips to foreign lands, and sunny fall days (preferably all three of these at once).

I Build Collapsible Mountains- Rails

Our love for Scottish musicians is well-documented on this site, and I have a feeling this guy is going to be no exception. I Build Collapsible Mountains is also known as the solo project of Luke G Joyce, a Scottish dude who signed to Seattle’s Burning Building Recordings and will release his LP, The Spectator and The Act, on October 11th! Head to his bandcamp to hear more from his EP, released earlier in 2011, or listen to a new track from the upcoming album here

We Were Promised Jetpacks- Act on Impulse

I know I’m not the only one that’s crazy excited for the new WWPJ album. Due out on October 4, the first single Act on Impulse shows the boys are sticking to their roots: beautiful, slow-burning songs that overtake your senses when the sounds finally come together. Just released second single Medicine is a faster-paced emotional wrecking ball. I’ve seen these lovely Scots live twice now and highly recommend catching their show if you get a chance… which you probably will, as they’re going on a Euro and U.S. tour this fall. See you there!

(Also, download Act on Impulse for free at their website.)

Frightened Rabbit- Living in Colour

Sometimes a song can just say it so much better than I can. Especially a song from Frightened Rabbit.

Though I dreamt with a rapid eye
By day I hope to rapidly die
And have my organs laid on ice
Wait for someone that would treat them right
And as the night started swallowing
You put the blood to my blue lips
Forced the life through still veins
Filled my heart with red again
